I am not quite sure when this started, otherwise I would have rolled back updates and/or removed recently installed apps. I recently uninstalled and reinstalled Office but it only made the issue worse. In System Configuration, if you select a check box, the related service or startup program runs when you restart the computer. If the check box is cleared, the service or startup program doesn't run when you restart the computer.

While Outlook has limited built-in options, they often fail when dealing with severely damaged or orphaned files. It enables you to recover data from damaged OST files and convert them into accessible PST format, preserving the original folder structure and formatting. ScanPST.exe is a useful tool that can help you repair and restore corrupt or damaged PST file. However, it may fail if the PST file is severely corrupt, oversized (larger than 2 GB), and/or encrypted. In such cases, you use an advanced Outlook PST repair tool, such as Stellar Repair for Outlook, to repair severely damaged and/or large PST file with complete integrity and precision.

While Outlook’s built-in Inbox Repair tool (ScanPST.exe) can handle minor issues, it often falls short in cases of severe corruption or when dealing with orphaned OST files. In such situations, EdbMails OST to PST Converter provides a more comprehensive and reliable solution. To safeguard against data loss, maintaining regular backups of your OST files is highly recommended. EdbMails allows you to recover data from corrupted, damaged, or inaccessible OST files and supports direct import to Office 365 and live Exchange environments. It works seamlessly across all Windows and Outlook versions, preserving the original folder hierarchy and formatting throughout the recovery and migration process. To regain access to your data, repairing the corrupted OST file becomes essential.

As @ode2joy said, clearing out the user’s profile usually works, which is a more thorough procedure than just deleting .nst and .ost files. When something goes wrong with Outlook, Microsoft site recommends that we start it in Safe mode. Simply that Outlook will be loaded without your add-ins and customization files. Originally, the freezing would only occur when I actually tried to do something. So, if I tried to open a message, search my inbox, write a new email, go to the calendar, etc., it would freeze up for about 5-10 seconds at a time. The freezing never seemed to occur when I had Outlook open but was not using it.

Occasionally, classic Outlook tries to run a process in the background. Auto-archive, sending and receiving a very large attachment, or running some of the other mailbox tools can all be done in the background. Check the status bar at the bottom of the screen to see if another process is running.
